Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Network Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based network infrastructure with a focus on AWS networking services.
This role requires a skilled network professional who can build secure, scalable, and highly available network architectures that support cloud applications while ensuring compliance with government security standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage cloud network infrastructure primarily on AWS platform
- Configure and optimize AWS networking components including VPCs, subnets, route tables, internet gateways, and NAT gateways
- Establish secure connectivity between on-premises networks and cloud environments using Direct Connect, Site-to-Site VPN, and Transit Gateway
- Implement network security controls including Security Groups, Network ACLs, and AWS WAF
- Design and deploy load balancing solutions using ELB, ALB, NLB, and Global Accelerator
- Configure and manage DNS services using Route 53 and implement DNS-based routing strategies
- Develop and maintain network diagrams, runbooks, and technical documentation
- Implement network monitoring and logging solutions using CloudWatch, VPC Flow Logs, and related tools
- Troubleshoot complex network issues and performance bottlenecks in cloud environments
- Work with security teams to implement network security best practices and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to implement infrastructure as code for network components
- Stay current with evolving AWS network services and industry best practices
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 4 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 2 years focused on cloud networking
- Strong knowledge of AWS networking services including VPC, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, and Route 53
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing protocols, subnets, and firewalls
- Experience implementing secure network architectures in compliance with security frameworks
- Knowledge of network security concepts and technologies including encryption, VPN, and security groups
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, or CDK for network deployment
- Experience with network monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization in cloud environments
- Understanding of hybrid cloud network architectures and connectivity options
- Knowledge of DNS configuration and management in cloud environments
- Experience with load balancing technologies and content delivery networks
- Ability to work hybrid in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Advanced Networking Specialty certification or equivalent networking certifications (CCNP, CCIE)
- Experience with multi-cloud networking and inter-cloud connectivity solutions
- Knowledge of software-defined networking (SDN) concepts and technologies
- Experience with containerized environments and related networking (ECS, EKS)
- Background in designing network solutions for government agencies or contractors
- Understanding of FedRAMP, NIST, and other government network security requirements
- Experience with automated network testing and validation tools
Familiarity with serverless networking architectures
