What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Connie Maxwell Children's Home?
Custodian
Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of the Custodian is to maintain the proper appearance, up keep, and cleanliness of assigned buildings on Connie Maxwell's campus, in order to be excellent stewards of Connie Maxwell's property.
Essential Functions: Primarily Assigned to (Supports other areas as needed):
Guest & Visitor Cottages:
- Keeps buildings and property in clean and orderly condition
- Keeps buildings attractive externally by sweeping porches and steps
- Gathers and empties trash - rolls trash cart to street per city schedule
- Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities
- Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment
- Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions
- Maintains the appearance of the floors by routinely vacuuming, wet mopping, waxing, and buffing floors
- Performs heavy cleaning duties as needed
- Make sure all lights in the buildings are off and that the buildings are locked if you are the last one out
- Notifies supervisor regarding need for repairs or maintenance issues
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Common Areas of Sam Smith Building:
Same Duties for the guest and visitor cottages for the areas below.
- Front entry, hallways and Public Restrooms
- Rainsford Meeting Room
- Supports dining services with weekly cleaning of dining room
Special Event Set Up:
- Room setups/teardowns for meetings.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Experience in cleaning multiple buildings and in office settings preferred
- Knowledge of different cleaning products and tools
- Skills in the safe use of cleaning products, tools and equipment to carry out duties
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Excellent time management and multi-tasking abilities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills

Work Conditions:
- Involves walking and standing for extended periods of time
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors
- Ability to lift and move over 50 pounds on a regular basis
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends based on ministry needs
- Ability to work under stress during peak workload periods
