Associate General Counsel
Overview : Reporting to the General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel will act as Conrail’s primary point of contact in government and community relations. This attorney will also support Conrail’s efforts in obtaining public funding for capital projects through grant writing and applications, while also handling ancillary general transactional and real estate matters. This attorney will also play an important role in managing and supporting outside counsel as well as in advising internal stakeholders on a wide variety of issues.
Experience : Minimum of 4 years of experience with a respected national or regional law firm. The successful candidate should be able to support Conrail’s outreach to federal, state, and local elected officials and be able to draft legislation and press releases, while also having experience as a broad-based transaction generalist. Experience representing railroads or other highly regulated industries as well as experience in regulatory matters is preferred.
Location : Mt. Laurel, NJ.
Compensation : Competitive base salary and bonus commensurate with experience. Excellent health benefits, pension and 401K.

Position Information
Job Duties
- Work with internal and outside counsel to manage a diverse portfolio of transactional matters.
- Draft and negotiate agreements and policies.
- Provide advice and counsel regarding statutory and regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
- Work with outside legislative and government relations consultants to transmit Conrail’s concerns and priorities to officials.
- Work with public relations experts to develop Conrail’s presentation of important information to the public.
- Represent Conrail in regional and national trade associations, including the state railroad associations for all states in which Conrail operates.
- Familiarity and experience with state and federal environmental laws and regulations.
- An outgoing and engaging personality that can engage with federal, state and local elected officials.
- Manage outside counsel to meet deadlines and achieve objectives while remaining within budget.
