What are the responsibilities and job description for the Band Teacher/Director position at Conroe Independent School District?
Teacher of Instrumental Music
- Teachers will teach full band and the marching band.
- Required activities for the year will include: marching at all football games providing half-time music for drill teams, CISD Super Half Time Show, UIL Marching Contest, Christmas parade, Go-Texas parade, UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest, CISD All-District Band auditions, All-Region Band and Orchestra auditions, UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, All-State (TMEA) participation, UIL State Solo and ensemble Contest.
- Teachers will perform at least two concerts per year.
- Teachers will attend all activities in which their students participate.
- Teachers will attend all TMEA/UIL region meetings in the Fall and Spring and will become active in as many region activities as possible.
- Teachers will provide regular opportunities for individual or small group teaching outside the regular school day (i.e., weekly sectionals, individual solo/ensemble help, etc.).
- Teachers of grades 9-12 will hold summer marching rehearsals as necessary, not to exceed UIL regulations.
- Teachers will attend all extra sectionals, rehearsals, concerts, etc. required of their students due to participation in All-District Band, All-Region Band and Orchestra, All-State Band and Orchestra, etc. or provide a qualified substitute.
- Regular attendance.
- Teachers will perform other duties as assigned.
ASSIGNMENTS TO VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION:
- Seamlessly integrate District-approved online learning platforms and required software into the planning, delivery, and support of virtual instruction.
- Plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate lessons and activities during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
- Be able to communicate with students, parents, and campus and District personnel during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
- Adhere to all professional responsibilities and deadlines including professional communication and responsiveness.
- Be flexible, responsive, and positive with students, parents, and staff.
- Effectively translate CISD Best Practices into the virtual instructional setting.
- Regularly attend and apply District-approved professional development in the most up-to-date practices associated with virtual instruction.
- Accurately and timely obtain and report required student data, including attendance, grades, etc.
- Dress professionally as you would if you were offering instruction to students in a traditional, in-person setting.
- Teach and interact with students from a quiet space, free from distraction, where appropriate confidentiality rules can be followed.
- Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Provide small group and tutoring opportunities for students who are experiencing difficulty in their learning.
- Support any extracurricular activities for which you are responsible according to District guidelines.
- Attend all required campus and District meetings.
- Applicants must demonstrate a proficiency in all areas of instrumental music – woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
- First year teachers must have band-related student teaching experience at all levels.
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor of Music Education
- Certification requirements; Music – All Level
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Applicants should have experience in Corps-style marching.
- Applicants for all grades should have adequate keyboard skills.
- Applicants for all grades must demonstrate proficiency on at least one band instrument.
- Applicants for secondary level should have experience with flags and rifles.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun, heat, cold and inclement weather. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
