What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carpenter Helper position at Conroe Independent School District?
Assist carpenter in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, building, and structures throughout the district. Maintain district structures and furniture in attractive and safe conditions.
- Assist in the fabrication, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, etc.
- Assist carpenter in the construction and repair outdoor equipment including fences, gates, bleachers, etc.
- Assist with the installation and moving of portable buildings, including constructing steps, installing underpinning, etc.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Regular attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driving license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Some knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
- Ability to read blueprints and diagrams
- Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to operate hand and power tools and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, fumes, gas lines, and toxic chemicals. Frequent district wide travel.
