Child care aide

JOB DESCRIPTION :

Assist teacher with the general supervision and management of classroom of children ages 3 to 5. Assist with the planning, supervision and preparation and serving meals and snacks for the children.

Assist in the supervision of all custodial services necessary to maintain facilities in a hygienic, safe, and presentable condition.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Planning supervising and implementing the program for the children, in accordance with the policies and philosophies of the school.
• Gearing the program to the needs of the individual child with concerns for his interests, handicaps, special talents and individual style and pace of learning.
• Treating each child with dignity and respect.
• Helping each child to become aware of his role as an integral part of a group.
• Being responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor and learning environment of the classroom.
• Assuming an equal share of joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
• Participating in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth.
• Implementing methods for effectively utilizing the services of the classroom assistants (high school students).
• Assisting in planning, making necessary purchases for, preparing and serving meals and snacks to children.
• Reviewing the food service plan with the child care teacher.
• Supervise the work of students as they assist in housekeeping, cooking, serving and kitchen clean-up tasks.
• Performing simple laundry tasks.
• Providing assistance to other teacher aides during transition time of the children and high school students.
• Being responsible for seeing that all doors are locked and outdoor equipment put away, and that the building is left in a safe condition each day after the last person leaves.
• Regular attendance.
• Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE :

Previous experience with pre-school age children in a learning or child care environment

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education / Certification :

• High School Diploma / GED

Special Knowledge / Skills :

• Ability to work well with children
• Ability to communicate effectively
