What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator of Health Services position at Conroe Independent School District?
To coordinate Conroe ISD Health Services, a comprehensive health program designed to assure a safe, healthy environment that is conducive to learning and provide professional care for those students and staff who become ill or injured while at school.
Assist Director in establishing, evaluating, and directing the program for Conroe ISD health services (CPR, AED, etc.).
- Participate in nursing policy formulation and decision making.
- Interpret objectives and policies of the health program as needed.
- Facilitate interpretation of school health policies regarding immunizations, communicable disease, medications, and emergency care of the ill and injured.
- Guide staff members in implementing and promoting the school health program in the following areas: Health appraisal, Health education, and Maintenance of a healthy school environment
- Plan and conduct orientation programs for new nurses, clinic assistants, or other health services personnel as needed.
- Assist with the compilation of all required reports of the school health program to the Texas Department of Health, Montgomery County Health Department and the Texas Education Agency. Keep current on state and federal mandates, and keep nurses advised of this information.
- Coordinate activities of the health program with those in the community, working with the Texas Department of Health, Montgomery County Health Department, Texas Education Agency, The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, civic and professional organizations, parents/guardians, physicians, dentists, private and voluntary agencies, school and community health councils.
- Remain current on new medical developments in health-related fields that will enhance the effectiveness of the health services program.
- Oversee nurses in development of skills required in their jobs, especially procedures that are new to them.
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct in-services for nurses and clinic assistants.
- Assist principals in the annual nurse evaluation as requested.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget for health services.
- Be available for consultation for campuses where a student’s specific health needs escalate to demand a case management approach.
- Act as a resource for needed health services materials and assist in locating community assistance.
- Provide counseling to Health Services staff in problem areas encountered in the performance of nursing functions.
- Represent school Health Services in programs and meetings when requested by faculties, PTA/PTO groups, School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and other civic groups.
- Provide/model/mentor leadership to the nurses
- Regular attendance.
- Perform additional duties as may be assigned.
Supervision of nurses through periodic observation and evaluation.
- Provide feedback to the Director of Health Services and campus principal on the practice of the school nurse and provide input for the principal to consider in conducting the performance evaluation of the school nurse as requested.
- Implement and facilitate mentor program for new school nurses.
Monitor school nurse documentation and recording practices to ensure compliance with state, local, and district policies.
- Provide guidance and supervision to nurses on delegating nursing services to unlicensed personnel.
- Reinforce the mission, vision, and goals for Health Services.
- Identify nurses in need of coaching or remediation and develop and implement and improvement plan.
- Facilitate continuous learning for the nurses through self-evaluation and goal setting.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a public-school nurse
Education/Certification:
- Registered Professional Nurse, with academic preparation at the diploma, associate degree, or baccalaureate level with a current Texas license issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners
