What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor/Elementary Anticipated position at Conroe Independent School District?
Implement the District Development Guidance Plan responding to the unique needs of the individual student.
- Develops a campus-Level Counselor Action Plan based on identified school need according to the TEA Developmental Guidance Program.
- Conducts individual and group counseling.
- Assists individual students in demonstrating self-confidence in reaching educational goals.
- Confers with students, parents, and teachers when needed.
- Conducts individual personal/academic student and parent conferences.
- Conducts individual and group counseling.
- Assists with student classroom and program placement.
- Provides parents and students with information regarding campus and district programs.
- Assists with testing as needed.
- Assists in the referral process and educational placement of students with special needs.
- Provides orientation sessions for parents and students.
- Provides college and career awareness activities.
- Adheres to time lines and procedures.
- Services on district Crisis Team.
- Plays active role in dropout prevention.
- Meets deadlines as established by the PEIMS/technology departments for scheduling, grade reporting, and pupil data information.
- Maintains calendar schedule of counselor activities.
- Attends required District in-service and staff meetings.
- Maintains student records.
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships.
- Serves as a resource for students, parents and staff members to access community resources.
- Cooperates with and supports faculty and staff.
- Coordinates and/or teaches anti-victimization and bullying programs.
- Demonstrates self-control and exhibits overall positive approach.
- Promotes positive self-image in students.
- Treats students consistently and empathetically.
- Initiates procedures to analyze and modify, as necessary, performance of duties based on self-analysis, feedback from students and interactions with colleagues.
- Maintains and improves professional competence through reading, course work, and professional activities.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Experience working with students in an educational setting or with school-aged children
- Experience supporting students/school-aged children in crisis situations
Education/Certification:
- Master’s Degree
- Professional school counselor’s certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and college and career awareness
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to instruct students to develop psychosocial skills
- Instruct students in accordance with the TEA Comprehensive Guidance Program model
- Knowledge and experience in the use and interpretation of various testing instruments
- Knowledge of academic curriculum
- Knowledge/awareness of how to access community resources
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
