What are the responsibilities and job description for the Life/Safety Compliance Technician position at Conroe Independent School District?
Under general supervision assist in the maintaining, repair, and service for the District’s Life/Safety equipment related to school facilities. Oversee subcontractors to meet specifications and schedules related to Life/Safety equipment maintenance and installation throughout the District. Life/Safety equipment may include but not limited to Fire Alarms, Fire Sprinklers, Fire Backflow, Kitchen Hoods, Fire Extinguishers, 12/24-volt electronics such as; elevators, chair lifts, and other equipment related to low voltage technology. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all Life/Safety systems in District facilities. Develop and manage programs primarily associated with environmental compliance, which influences health and safety in all district facilities. Maintain appropriate records keeping requirements as required by federal, state and local agencies.
- Maintain regulatory compliance in all environmental areas.
- Assume responsibility for timely compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required to satisfy state and local codes.
- Monitor record retention program.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to Life Safety Supervisor immediately.
- Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Install and change out fire extinguishers.
- Install and repair fire extinguisher cabinets.
- Escort Fire Marshal for inspections as needed.
- Perform minimal fire sprinkler maintenance.
- Assist with kitchen hood inspections.
- Assist in fire alarms.
Work with other departments as needed.
- Ability to maintain and service fire extinguisher, ansul hood systems, fire sprinkler, backflows and fire pumps.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Regular attendance.
- Other duties assigned.
- Two years of experience in environmental compliance or related field.
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driving license
- Type B Portable Fire Extinguisher License or obtain within one year of employment date
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to research information, organize data and develop plans and programs.
- Working knowledge of fire suppression equipment.
- Ability to communicate ideas and actions.
- Willing attitude and ability to learn.
- Basic computer skills in database, word processor and spreadsheet applications.
- Must be able to work at elevated heights on ladders or lifts up to 50 feet and access flat rooftops up to 3 stories in height.
EQUIPMENT USED: Multimeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, and testing equipment; soldering iron; wire puller; pipe benders; hand and power tools (saw, drills, etc.); ladder. Light truck or van
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside and around moving objects or vehicles, work on ladders and scaffolding. Exposure to dampness and humidity and slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Frequent district wide travel.
