What are the responsibilities and job description for the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Liaison position at Conroe Independent School District?
To use individual and group guidance and problem-solving techniques to develop positive and supportive relationships with students; to encourage and teach positive social skills and interaction among students; to promote positive strategies of conflict resolution; and to develop and advance personal self-control, self-motivation, and self-esteem. Collaborate with parents, teachers, school/district staff, and community members to help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their ability to enjoy the benefits of the educational process.
- Select and implement methods of behavior support and interventions appropriate for students with significant behavior issues.
- Provide direct instruction and support in the teaching of social skills and teach responsible positive behavior to students with significant behavioral issues.
- Provide in-class support for teachers and students.
Collaborate with the Student Support Services Department by attending scheduled meetings and professional learning, reviewing data, setting schedules, and problem-solving issues.
Serve as a liaison between student, home, school, and community resources. Access and work closely with community agencies and District staff to identify resources for students and their families.
- Provide crisis intervention and preventive support to students and their families as needed.
- Make home visits to gather information relating to students.
- Consult with parents, teachers, and other school/District personnel to determine cause of student problems and effect solutions.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of parent involvement activities.
- Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
- Comply with policies established by Federal and State laws, State Board of Education rule, and Board policy.
- Comply with all District and campus routines and regulations.
- Participate in professional learning activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Regular attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Two years of experience in work related fields of social work, education, counseling, or in the community service sector
- Experience working with early childhood
Education/Certification/Licensure:
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work or related field from an accredited college or university
- Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. (within 30 days of hire)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) methodology and process
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed practices
- Skilled in selecting and implementing methods of behavior support and interventions appropriate for students with significant behavior issues
- Knowledge of social skills instruction
- Strong collaboration skills for working with administrators, teachers, parents, and students
- Awareness of and ability to access community resources
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district-wide travel to student homes and other agencies as assigned. May be required to participate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention physical restraints.
