ALCC Wood For Life
The Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) is a partner of the Wood For Life Initiative (WFL), which is comprised of the United States Forest Service (USFS), National Forest Foundation (NFF), and various Tribal Partners, Non-Profits, and Grassroots Organization who focus on providing resourceful wood material to the local Tribal communities. The focus of the ALCC: WFL Program is to provide firewood for heating initiatives, mulch, and Post & Beams for traditional building purposes. ALCC: WFL has a large field operation where ALCC and AZCC crews produce resourceful wood material that is accessible to individual households within Tribal communities and Partners who support distribution beyond the operation site.
ALCC: WFL supports the development of emerging and/or existing Wood Banks in Tribal communities. This position will primarily be supporting Wood Banks in-field operations and preparations.
ALCC Wood For Life Resource Support Coordinator Overview:
The position serves as a vital part of our communications and outreach efforts, ensuring Tribal communities stay connected to resourceful wood material. Interns will assist with ‘In-Field’ Wood Distributions Events, support Wood Bank Planning and Deployment Operations, and serve as a key point of contact for local community members seeking information on ALCC and USFS wood resources in the Coconino Region. This position will emphasize a role as a public engagement arm for our program and will help us better engage support and advocacy.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
Assist with Distribution events
- Work with the Communications Coordinator to schedule pick up’s on our time slot system
- Assist distribution events in person at a community Wood Bank or at our field operations site in Flagstaff including set up and break down
- Collect, record, and log demographic information regarding wood pick-ups for reporting purposes.
- Record, collect, and return load ticket books to the USFS office.
Wood Bank Support
- Conduct Wood Bank Capacity Assessments to ensure long term viability of a site.
- Work with Established Wood Bank Contacts to determine time, event scale, and desired distribution methods.
- Assist with in person distribution events including set up and break down of event within parameters determined by partners.
- Collect, record, and log demographic information regarding wood pick-ups for reporting purposes.
- Coordinate and assist ALCC Crews supporting distribution events.
Provide Information on Additional Resources
- Be a resource/point of contact in community to address questions on how to obtain wood resources in person, virtually, and over the phone.
- Provide information and process requests for ALCC WFL material including firewood, post and pole, and mulch.
- Provide information on the USFS permitting systems and maintain a contact list to connect the community to additional resources.
- Work with US Forest Service personnel to understand the permitting system, understand FS maps, and available cut sites.
- Be available for in office and any pop-up events to distribute information.

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets and accomplishment tracking.
Minimum requirements:
- Must be from the local community or have the ability to report in person to the Physical office located in Kykotsmovi, AZ.
- Must be able to report in person to the field site and be willing to camp with crews for the duration of distribution events.
- Skill in communicating effectively/professionally, both verbally, written, and over the phone
- Strong start-to-finish systems management and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize multiple systems while staying organized and responsive
- Ability to maintain open and frequent communication with the public and partners
- Demonstrate sound judgment, team collaboration, and the ability to work productively with minimal direction
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite
- Willingness to adapt to changing responsibilities
- Ability to take direction from and communicate with supervisors
- Willingness to learn how to answer challenging questions from the public and staff in a productive and educational manner
- Possession of a current valid driver’s license to utilize a company vehicle
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be a US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States. Coordinator must undergo a background check if selected.
