Waterford Power is a 3x1 Combined Cycle Power Plant located on 161 acres in Washington County, Ohio. The facility operates three GE 7FA combustion turbines (Advanced Gas Path upgrade), three Nooter Erickson HRSGs, and a GE D11 steam turbine paired with a GE 390H generator. The plant is staffed with approximately 29 employees.
The Combined Cycle Operations and Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of all plant systems and equipment. This includes mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control (I&C), chemical, and environmental systems across the combined cycle facility. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical aptitude, leadership in safe work practices, and a commitment to operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations
- Operate, monitor, and maintain plant equipment including turbines, generators, HRSGs, boiler feed pumps, water treatment systems, transformers, and auxiliaries.
- Respond to alarms, troubleshoot abnormal conditions, and take corrective actions to maintain safe and efficient operations.
- Start up, shut down, and transition equipment according to standard operating procedures.
- Monitor and analyze process data using control systems (DCS, PI) and field instruments to identify trends and ensure reliability.
- Maintain plant logs, complete shift reports, and update the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Perform field rounds, inspections, and routine equipment checks.
Maintenance
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and I&C systems.
- Calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and repair plant instrumentation and electrical equipment using appropriate test equipment and schematics.
- Conduct valve and pump rebuilds, piping repairs, and minor mechanical overhauls.
- Assist in isolations and lockout/tagout procedures; obtain and execute clearance permits per site procedures.
- Maintain and operate environmental and industrial hygiene equipment including CEMS and gas detection systems.
Chemistry & Environmental
- Operate and maintain the water treatment system; monitor and control water and steam chemistry.
- Perform chemical sampling and analysis using standard laboratory procedures and QA/QC standards.
- Safely handle and unload chemical deliveries and compressed gases per site procedures.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits, procedures, and reporting requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all safety regulations, environmental policies, and company procedures.
- Conduct job safety analyses (JSAs), review SDS, and participate in daily job briefings.
- Attend and contribute to safety meetings and training sessions.
- Identify, report, and correct unsafe conditions and near misses.
- Support a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
