The Control Room Operator Operations and Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Plant equipment under their control in accordance with written plant procedures and under the direction of the Lead Operations and Maintenance Technician. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in Plant operation. Comply with plant policies including those concerning safety and environmental.
The St Charles Energy Center is 2x1 gas fired combined cycle facility utilizing GE 7FA.05 Gas Turbines and D11 Steam Turbine. The facility uses beneficial reuse, or reclaim, water in a counterflow cooling tower for condenser cooling. The 745 MW facility is interconnected to PEPCO and sells power into the PJM market.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment
- Properly operate Control Room, combustion turbines and plant auxiliary equipment during normal and emergency operation
- Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems
- Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data
- Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures
- Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed
- Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings
- Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others
- Apply knowledge of gas power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks
- Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel
- Work without supervision inspection while carrying out duties
- Take, record, and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters
- Training of operators in their qualifications
- Ensure shift operations and maintenance PMs are performed
- Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation
- Meet physical requirements of the job, performing tasks while standing, walking, climbing, and squatting
- Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week.
