Merom Generating Station is a 2-Unit, 1080-MW rated coal-fired power plant. The Auxiliary Operator performs assigned projects and routine procedures or tasks primarily involving the operation, inspection, checking and status-reporting of assigned equipment or systems, for the purpose of contributing to the overall safety, continuity, and efficient operation of the power plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviews, at the start of each assigned shift, the operating reports of the previous shift concerning assigned plant equipment and verifies such information by personal inspection; completes the prescribed written reports with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Responsible for the performance of the necessary steps and procedures concerning the operation, lubrication, inspection, checking and status-handling system.
- Inspects, lubricates and cleans assigned equipment, on a regular basis, in accordance with schedules and specifications, to include fly ash silo building (baghouses, air locks, truck unloaders, aeration blowers, transfer blowers, and LF load center), intermediate surge tank and associated equipment, all sump pumps in FGD area, routine and emergency module wash-downs, air compressor and dryer condensate receivers, and freeze protection systems.
- Performs housekeeping chores in and around assigned work areas.
- Works a rotating “swing” shift schedule and reports for work in a timely and dependable fashion.
- Provides the necessary on-the-job guidance of personnel of lesser experience in order to upgrade their operational skills.
- Maintains appropriate channels of communication and cooperation with all power plant personnel, and reports any abnormal or potentially dangerous conditions to the appropriate supervisor(s) in a responsible and timely fashion.
- Performs housekeeping chores in and around assigned work area.
- Responsible for the proper utilization, maintenance and security of assigned tools, equipment and work areas.
- Makes suggestions to the FGD Operator or the FGD Shift Supervisor any recommendations about practices, procedures, system requirements or improvements in order to facilitate maintenance schedules, short or long-term plans, and other work efficiencies or cost improvements.
- Responsible for the proper performance of Plant Clearance Permit System procedures, as assigned.
- Acts in an exemplary manner in order to maintain and promote safe practices and procedures; participates in scheduled safety meetings and first aid classes.
- Performs various assigned tasks or procedures, during construction or major maintenance phases, under the direction of various supervisors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
