The Generation Process Specialist is responsible for supporting the safe, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible operation and maintenance of equipment at the Hamakua Power Plant. This role ensures plant performance aligns with operational goal regulatory standards, and safety protocols. The specialist will monitor and improve plant systems, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with the team to optimize operations. A journeyman-level I&El background and a strong understanding of combined cycle power plant operations and maintenance practices are required.
Hamakua Energy Plant is a 60 MW, combined cycle facility fuel with liquid fuels (biodiesel and naphtha) consisting of two LM2500 combustion turbine and one Mitsubishi steam turbine in Honoka?a, Hawai’i.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Electrical Analysis & Repairs
- Analyze circuits, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings to install, repair, or maintain electronic devices and systems.
- Perform electrical inspections, emergency repairs, and scheduled maintenance according to wiring diagrams, specifications, and supervisor instructions.
Operation of Turbine Systems:
- Operate gas and steam turbines and associated systems (e.g., generators, cooling systems, and pumps).
- Monitor turbine performance using control systems and instrumentation.
- Start-up and shut down turbine units according to operational procedures.
- Adjust turbine parameters (temperature, pressure, etc.) to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose and resolve issues through Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) communication and other diagnostic tools.
- Service electronic equipment by testing, replacing, or repairing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards, and related devices.
- Conduct general plant maintenance to ensure continuous operations.
Technical Expertise
- Apply a thorough understanding of electrical theory, statutory codes, material properties, and engineering principles in daily tasks.
- Notify supervisors of hazardous electrical equipment and document corrective actions taken.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to housekeeping standards.
- Follow all safety protocols, including the mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical Requirements
- Meet physical requirements of the job such as performing tasks while standing, walking, climbing and squatting. Work with extended reach above head and in front of body and lift 50 pounds and carry while walking distances of up to 100 feet.
