Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the daily operations of the collections team, driving efficiency and optimizing recovery strategies.
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance collections effectiveness while maintaining a member-focused approach.
- Monitor and report on department performance, preparing monthly delinquency reports for management and the board.
- Resolve escalated disputes and negotiate with accounts at various stages of delinquency, ensuring fair and effective resolutions.
- Coordinate vehicle repossessions, manage bankrupt and deceased loan accounts, and oversee home foreclosure processes, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
- Identify trends and inefficiencies in collections operations and implement solutions to improve workflows and financial recovery.
- Maintain a strong customer service focus, balancing member relationships with business objectives to achieve optimal outcomes.
- File small claims on delinquent and charged-off loans, monitor for wage and bank garnishments, and ensure legal compliance in all recovery efforts.
- Perform loan modifications, recasts, payment corrections, and late fee waivers when appropriate.
- Conduct skip-tracing activities to locate delinquent members when necessary.
- Address credit disputes, ensure accuracy in credit reporting, and make necessary corrections.
- Train and mentor collections staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
- 5 years of management experience, specifically in loan collections
- Strong knowledge of credit union collections, including regulatory compliance.
- Familiarity with consumer lending products.
- Proficiency in PC skills (Microsoft Office) and familiarity with Symitar systems is advantageous.
- Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively across departments and with members.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Comfortable using a keypad, keyboard, and mouse for extended periods.
- Normal or corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
- Capacity to adjust, lift, carry, or push/pull objects as required.
- Ability to remain stationary (standing or sitting) for extended periods and move about to accomplish tasks.
Other Requirements:
- Must be bondable; credit and background checks are mandatory.
- Understanding and adherence to all Credit Union policies, banking regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
