Overview

The basic objective of the position is to develop and implement training programs to promote high standards for employee performance in terms of technical proficiency, the environment, safety, productivity, customer focus and ethical behavior. This position contributes to the success of the Company by providing a motivated, well-trained workforce to meet the needs of customers and various stakeholders.The Instructor responsibilities are as follows:Develop and update training curriculum and aides, instructor guides, student guides, tests, training media, eLearning courses, etc.Conduct training of employees and contractors in the skills required to perform their jobs. Conduct training of customers, as required.Assist employees for possible career development.Evaluate trainee performance when required for qualifications.Evaluate procedures and equipment relative to training.Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of TLC processes and programs.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all assigned courses have current learning objectives, course outlines, instructor guides, student manuals, training aids, tests, media and centralized document control.
  • Adapt to changing training demands (e.g., be available for ad-hoc, off-hour and/or off-site training).
  • Coordinate with field personnel to ensure alignment of training with operations, including active participation in Training Effectiveness Committees (TECs) and field visits, including taking the lead in special projects, Operational Self Assessments (OSA), and a defined role in TECs such as co-chair or scribe.
  • Develop new training programs to meet the needs of the Company and operating organizations.
  • Evaluate student performance of those being trained, or tested for a position, title change, or advancement in title.
  • Maintain inventory of the materials required to conduct training.
  • Stay informed of operating incidents, issues, procedures, lessons learned, etc. Communicate these to the training staff and students, where applicable.
  • Maintain necessary certificates/licenses and training required to return to the field.
  • Support operating organizations in emergency and contingency situations.
  • Market our programs to external customers and seek ways to use our facilities and resources to meet external customers needs.
  • Maintain housekeeping responsibility for assigned rooms and areas and ensure compliance requirements are met, as assigned (e.g., fire extinguisher inspections, battery inspections, TLC's Hazardous Energy Control Program and conduct monthly HECP assessments).
  • Perform field and records audits to ensure compliance with Company and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct regular reviews of training curriculum and materials.
  • Develop the ability to and routinely conduct effective training in multiple technical disciplines.
  • Participate in self-development activities, training certifications (train the trainer) and benchmarking with other corporations, vendors, manufacturers and utilities along with participation in industry conferences to stay abreast of training best practices, emerging technologies and new educational techniques in order to identify and implement training enhancements.
  • Qualify in 3 EH&S Curriculum within the first 12 months.
  • Support and participate in the development of Digital Learning Tools, Innovation and Technology.
  • Cross train in other training disciplines, for example customer experience and testing.
  • Embed Zero Harm, Human Performance Tools and Operational Excellence principles into all lessons.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as request.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED 5 Years of EH&S or related experience Related experience includes: conducting training, working for the EH&S organization, participating in safety committees, and supervising employees where you are responsible for conducting safety job briefings and applying information, tools and techniques attained from EH&S training courses such as OSHA, Hazmat Tech, Emergency Response Refresher and First Aid/CPR on a day to day basis. or
  • Associate's Degree with 4 years of relevant work experience. Related experience includes: conducting training, working for the EH&S organization, participating in safety committees, and supervising employees where you are responsible for conducting safety job briefings and applying information, tools and techniques attained from EH&S training courses such as OSHA, Hazmat Tech, Emergency Response Refresher and First Aid/CPR on a day to day basis. or
  • Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of relevant work experience. Related experience includes: conducting training, working for the EH&S organization, participating in safety committees, and supervising employees where you are responsible for conducting safety job briefings and applying information, tools and techniques attained from EH&S training courses such as OSHA, Hazmat Tech, Emergency Response Refresher and First Aid/CPR on a day to day basis.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Required and
  • Should be certified or be capable of becoming First Aid, CPR/AED certified, Hand Signal training, Confined Space training, and other external safety certifications as needed. Required and
  • Demonstrate high energy level, flexibility and the ability handle multiple tasks and assignments while working under tight deadlines. Required and
  • Strong organizational, administrative, decision making and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and a solid teamwork orientation. Required and
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor, confidence dealing with all levels of management/union personnel and the ability to work with sensitive and confidential information. Required and
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible with the ability to handle classroom instructional responsibilities and special assignments. Required and
  • Must have the ability to make presentations and facilitate group activities/training. Required and
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and have the ability to deal with all levels of management, Regulatory Agencies, union personnel and customers. Required and
  • Hands-on experience with computer software programs, including Microsoft Office products required. Required and
  • Experience in EH&S, Electric, Gas or Steam. Preferred and
  • Experience with eTrain and TLC Portal is preferred. Preferred
  • Experience with EMIS and SHIMS is preferred. Preferred
  • Experience with hazardous waste manifests and managing waste streams is preferred. Preferred
  • Experience as a supervisor, conducting job briefings and overseeing the safety of their employees and coworkers. Preferred
  • Experience with supervising employees where information attained in practical training such as OSHA, HazMat Tech, Emergency Response Refresher and First Aid/CPR is applied to day to day activities. Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
Physical Demands
  • Must respond to system emergencies
  • Must work at field locations in all weather conditions
  • Must work in an environment that includes heat, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
  • Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
  • Must stand, walk, and climb ladder and stairs for a whole shift
  • Must walk, stand, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach
  • Must travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness
Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
