Overview
The Transmission Line Maintenance section within the Transmission Operations department is seeking to hire a Mechanic B to join our team. The Mechanic B is responsible for assisting the Chief Line Constructors from the ground on overhead transmission facilities. The ideal candidate has the knowledge and skill in the following areas but not limited to: use of hand and power tools, the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical equipment, general automotive knowledge.Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities- Assist Chief Line Constructors from the ground on overhead transmission facilities.
- Responsible for operating and controlling hand lines on capstans, and operating winches and heavy equipment.
- Responsible for organizing tools and equipment, and ordering material.
- Ensure that all vehicles, specialized equipment, tools, and PPE are tested in accordance with specifications and in good working order.
- Candidates are expected to develop a working knowledge of the equipment quickly.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience- High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 1 year of work experience in the maintenance, construction, or operation of mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems, or related work experience.
- Experience in reading blueprints and sketches.
- Ability to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience in the following areas are required: use of hand and power tools, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems, operating, securing and transporting heavy equipment and material.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and environmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to perform standard maintenance functions.
- Driver's License Required
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B Required and
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A 1 Year Preferred
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
- Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery, i.e. jackhammers
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Willing and able to work overtime as operational needs require.
- Willingness to operate 4WD vehicles on unpaved roads is required.
