As the primary technical point of contact for ConMet's customers, the Applications Engineer plays a crucial role in developing and strengthening engineering relationships. Their main responsibility is to offer technical guidance on ConMet's products and capabilities in order to devise solutions for complex customer issues. They also provide technical support to internal product development teams, suppliers, and ConMet's manufacturing plants for both existing and new products.
This role requires working in an office environment (not hybrid or remote) at ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington. Non-local candidates must be open to relocation (relocation assistance available.
Key Duties
- Acts as a customer engineering liaison, building and maintaining a strong cross-functional customer network
- Collaborate with Key Account Managers and Sales Directors as part of the Account Team
- Identify new business opportunities and develop business justifications
- Provides guidance for technical/product strategies and manages the execution of those strategies based on voice of customer feedback (VOC) and ConMet technical/product strategic initiatives
- Manage customer product portfolio
- Ensures customer quality standards are met
Additional Responsibilities:
- Facilitates decision making and/or selection of products, components, or specific product development projects
- Support or lead development projects as required
- Support investigations to field performance as required, leading the customer response and contributing to corrective action plans for key engineering issues
- Drives for continuous improvement of ConMet product development processes and ConMet products
Qualifications
Required Experience/Traits:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum two years’ experience in relevant field
- Customer interface/technical sales experience
- Travel: Flexibility to travel as needed (10-20%)
- Entrepreneurial Spirit: Detail-oriented, driven, and proactive in seeking new opportunities
- Strategic Decision-Making: Identify opportunities, assess risks, and drive growth and profitability
- Communication Skills: Translate complex technical concepts into compelling value propositions for engineers and executives
- Business Acumen: Ability to understand and create financial models to accompany technical proposals. Identify customer needs, industry trends, and market dynamics to offer strategic solutions
Preferred Experience:
- 3-5 years’ experience in relevant field
- Foundry casting, machining, and assembly experience and knowledge
- Automotive or commercial vehicle experience highly preferred
- Experience with CAD programs – Creo and NX are preferred
- Experience with quality documentation including PFMEA’s, Control Plans, and APQP checklists
- Experience with PLM systems / Teamcenter

Compensation & Benefits
- New hires generally start between $77,177 - $110,253. The full salary range for the position, across all geographies is $77,177 - $132,304 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience.
- Targeted annual bonus is based on company performance to objectives during the fiscal plan year which runs from October 1 – September 30.
