The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for maintaining the quality system and monitoring and improving supplier performance. In addition, this position interprets and evaluates statistical quality control data, and evaluates product, part, and performance conforms to quality standards and product specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures that all ConMet requirements are understood and addressed at the supplier.
- Manages all supplier quality activities.
- Acts as a “Change Agent” who can successfully affect process and performance improvements at the supplier that meets or exceed ConMet’s demanding quality standards.
- Performs supplier process audits, readiness reviews, and coordinates corrective action follow-up verifications.
- Maintains supplier rating systems that can be used internally or externally for supply base.
- Coordinates and approves progress checks and assists supplier with advanced product quality planning (APQP) for product realization.
- Leads proactive strategies regarding supplier quality improvement.
- Manages and reports on supplier quality. Provides the organization with regular objective evidence of supplier performance and improvements.
- Reviews, analyzes, and approves supplier PPAP submissions.
- Provides training and assistance to help supplier improve process control and capability.
- Facilitates, manages, and tracks supplier progress to a successful product launch.
- Assists the suppliers in implementing poka yokes (mistake proofing) to improve defect prevention.
- Visits suppliers; trains and drives home quality expectations.
- Manages new product approval process with plant quality personnel.
- Travels as required to support plants and/or supplier development.
- Maintains awareness of the relevance and importance of activities and how each contributes to achieving quality objectives. Understands the importance of ensuring customer quality standards are met. Responsibilities may include the selection of special characteristics, setting quality objectives and related training, corrective and preventive actions, product design and development, capacity analysis, logistics information, customer scorecards, and customer portals.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university with five years of professional experience; or Master’s degree with two years of professional related experience.
- Technical knowledge of mechanical systems and designs.
- Understanding of IATF-16949 audit procedures and ability to implement procedures for compliance.
- Demonstrated team building and relationship building skills with internal engineering, customers and suppliers.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MiniTab, Access, Word, Visio, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Metrology capabilities with basic instruments, such as micrometer, comparator, et al.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Use of “Design of Experiments” methods in problem solving and process development a plus.
- Alertness, creativity, judgment, initiative, speaking ability, mathematical ability and problem solving ability.
- Ability to identify problems with parts or machinery and understand and respond appropriately to safety factors.
- Ability to understand moderately complex symbolic/diagrammatic systems.

- Targeted annual bonus is based on company performance to objectives during the fiscal plan year which runs from October 1 – September 30.
