General Description:
The Consolidated Mosquito Abatement District is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Vector Biologist to join our dedicated team. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the District’s mission to protect public health by reducing vector-borne diseases. Under the direction of the District Manager and Director of Science and Outreach, the Vector Biologist will be responsible for applying expertise in entomology, biology, ecology, microbiology, biostatistics, and scientific methodology to design, implement, and evaluate various mosquito control and disease surveillance programs. The position will involve conducting field surveys, analyzing data, and recommending control measures to mitigate the health risks posed by mosquito and vector populations.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will assist in planning, implementing, and managing key components of the District’s mosquito and mosquito-borne disease surveillance programs. This includes collecting, identifying, and processing mosquito and vector specimens, conducting population surveys, and performing vector-borne disease surveillance. You will analyze the health significance of vector populations and provide recommendations for appropriate control measures. Staying current with advancements in mosquito control, vector biology, and related scientific fields will be essential, as you will contribute to the District’s ongoing innovation. Additionally, you will prepare and present scientific reports and research findings at conferences, meetings, and to internal stakeholders. Accurate record-keeping and effective communication are also vital to ensuring the successful dissemination of surveillance data to the appropriate personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related scientific discipline, with coursework or experience in entomology. A proven understanding of vector control, vector surveillance programs, and vector identification is essential. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for engaging with colleagues, stakeholders, and the public. A valid California driver’s license and the ability to travel within the District are required.
Salary and Benefits:
We offer a competitive salary range of $6,471 to $7,864 per month, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes CalPERS retirement, medical, dental, vision, prescription drug coverage, paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, and more.
