The Ceramics Lab Technician performs control tests on all ceramic slurry solutions so that corrective action can be taken if control limits are breached.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform specific gravity test on shell slurries, enter data in spreadsheet, and communicate if limits are breached or trends are noticed. Take corrective action if needed.
- Perform binder solids test on shell slurries, enter data in spreadsheet, and communicate if limits are breached or trends are noticed. Take corrective action if needed.
- Perform slurry tests on feed tank slurries, record results, adjust if needed, and release or reject slurry.
- Perform pH, temperature, bacteria, gel, and foam test on shell slurries, enter data in spreadsheet, and communicate if limits are breached or trends are noticed. Take corrective action if needed.
- Perform plate weight, polymer solids, and slurry coverage test and enter data in spreadsheet.
- Perform binder solids test on incoming shell binders, enter data in spreadsheet, and release or reject binder.
- Collect, prepare, and test Modulus of Rupture on shell mold test strips, enter data in spreadsheet, and communicate if trends are noticed.
- Keep Ceramics Lab, cabinets, and all equipment clean, well-organized, and in good working condition.
- Maintain settings of slurry drip pumps and keep production drip pumps in good working condition.
- Build and maintain experimental slurries as required by Engineering.
- Assist manufacturing in building of production slurry as needed.
- Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Experience: 1-3 years in manufacturing. Experience in investment casting preferred.
- Certifications/Licenses: None
- Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to use and manage Excel spreadsheets, Ability to perform slurry tests including specific gravity, viscosity, pH, binder solids, gel test, foam test, bacteria test, plate weight, and polymer solids, Ability to perform and understand statistics calculations including standard deviation, Ability to work safely with chemicals such as bactericides. Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and via email communication. Ability to recognize trends in data and to bring them to attention of others in timely fashion. Ability to perform routine tests in careful and thorough manner on on-going basis.
- Working Environment: Shop floor.
- Required PPE: Check for required PPE in areas you may be working in
- Safety Glasses: Needed in all areas of the plant.
- Steel toe shoes: Needed in all areas of the plant.
