Job Description
This position is part of the team that is responsible for supporting and maintaining the infrastructure for the identity access management (IAM) system, web / application servers, and endpoint management applications. The IAM system is an important component as it is the foundation for the University's security architecture. The IAM system maintains users' identity information and controls user access to all University services. This includes on-premises applications like the Human Resources system and the Financials system, as well as cloud-based services like Canvas and the Library. Two of the most visible components of the IAM system supported by this team are LDAP directory services and the Shibboleth identity providers.
The duties of the position include maintaining industry standards, reviewing / applying security patches and upgrades to all applications and components supported by the team. The team is also responsible for integrating new applications with Shibboleth, maintaining existing integrations, and maintaining web and application servers for the IAM systems.
Day-to-day activities will include :
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of application servers and SSO server components in a highly available clustered and load balanced environment (HTTP, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directories, Messaging, and Connection Pooling).
- Responsible for performance monitoring and optimization of services supported by the team. Perform capacity planning and recommend future system requirements.
- Analyze and recommend new technology solutions and industry standards related to the application supported and apply them to Boston College's application servers.
- Research, implement, and communicate required patches and upgrades of the systems and applications supported by the team.
- Installation, configuration, and maintenance of Endpoint management solutions and desktop applications (e.g. Symantec Client Management Suite, Crashplan endpoint backup, Sophos Intercept X, FileMaker Pro, etc.).
- Data center workload automation (e.g. automate business processes integrating multiple services using various protocols).
- Follow SAS 115 requirements and audit procedures.
- Ensure systems and applications are secure and protected.
- Provide leadership (technical and non-technical) to project team members both within and outside of IT.
- Determine the impact of system changes and / or new functionality on the user community.
- Work closely with customers to deliver state of the art business solutions.
