About the Role
The Lead Spacecraft Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and overseeing the construction and testing of our lunar lander program. This leader will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure technical excellence and program success. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in spacecraft design, systems integration, and space mission architecture, coupled with a passion for lunar exploration.
Responsibilities
- Program Leadership:
- Serve as the technical lead for the lunar lander program, ensuring milestones are met within budget and schedule.
- Oversee spacecraft design, development, integration, and testing activities.
- Systems Engineering:
- Define spacecraft requirements, interfaces, and performance metrics.
- Perform trade studies and system-level analysis to optimize design and performance.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with propulsion, structures, avionics, and other subsystem teams to ensure cohesive spacecraft integration.
- Coordinate with external partners, including suppliers, contractors, and government agencies, to align program goals.
- Testing and Validation:
- Lead environmental testing, including thermal vacuum, vibration, and structural testing, to ensure spacecraft reliability.
- Oversee mission simulation and risk assessment activities.
- Innovation and Problem-Solving:
- Drive innovative solutions to overcome technical challenges related to lunar lander development and operation.
- Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards throughout the development lifecycle.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred). 7 years of experience in spacecraft design, systems engineering, or related roles. Proven track record of leading spacecraft development projects, ideally with experience in lunar or planetary missions. Deep understanding of spacecraft systems, including propulsion, avionics, power, and thermal systems. Familiarity with space industry standards, including NASA, ESA, and commercial space protocols. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills. Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
