What are the responsibilities and job description for the 11th Hour Hospice Volunteer position at Constellation Health Services?
Loving heart? Called to serve? Constellation Hospice is looking for volunteers to visit patients who have a terminal illness. Make a difference in your community, be part of the hospice team, and have a flexible volunteer schedule. One hour a week can make a big difference to someone nearing the end of life!
11th-hour volunteer position description:
- Caring presence for patients nearing death, including emotional support, spiritual support, and comfort measures
- Demonstrate understanding of the dying process and ability to provide compassion and support
- Desire to support patients and families at the time when a patient is actively dying
- At least 6 months of hospice experience
- Comfortable with the death and dying process
- Be a listener
- Sit with patients overnight to provide respite to caregivers
- Pray with patients as requested
- Advocate for the patient as needed
- Run errands, and make phone calls for caregivers who do not wish to leave the patient's bedside
- Minimum commitment of 1 year
- Maintain an accurate record of hours
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years old or older
- Able to commit for one year to our program
- Ability to listen deeply, interest in and compassion for others, good boundaries and self-care, meet people where they’re at in energy and tone
- Online training takes ~ 20 hours and is personally enriching, focusing on personal death awareness and hospice philosophy
- No close death in the last year
