What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipper and Driver position at Construction Forms Inc?
The Shipper and Driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of both the warehouse and delivery processes. This role is split between managing shipping duties and performing driving tasks. The Shipper and Driver packs and prepares customer orders for shipping, receives material and equipment, and loads and unloads trucks according to procedures while meeting customer delivery requirements. One of the main functions of this role is to move inventoried goods using the company straight truck, from site to site between our Port Washington and Grafton facilities, while keeping quantities and locations accurate.
RESPONSIBLITIES
- Pick up and deliver materials or company product between company sites, vendors, or customer locations with the company straight truck.
- Pick orders from stock or staging areas by hand, hand cart, pallet jack, sitting fork truck or standing cherry picker.
- Prepare product for shipment to customers including affixing the appropriate labeling.
- Pack product in the appropriate box, crate, and/or shrink-wrap as required for the type of material being shipped.
- Verify the quantity and quality of materials picked and packaged for accuracy. Inspect materials to ensure they are free from defects and ensure bills of lading are correct.
- Affix complete address labels and any other special labels required for the handling of material as specified by the carriers.
- Load trucks with outgoing products and unload trucks with incoming materials placing it in the appropriate locations.
- Notify the supervisor of any maintenance issues or concerns regarding the state truck.
- Maintain complete and accurate paperwork.
- Operate a metal and poly bander, air hammer, chop saw, jig saw job crane and lift table.
- Operate all equipment in a safe manner and uses safe work habits. Maintain a safe and clean working environment including complying with safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2-3 years’ experience in shipping and receiving in a warehouse environment.
- Prior experience operating forklifts in a warehouse environment including tight spaces and high lifts and handling oversized pallets/crates.
- Basic mathematical skills and ability to perform precise measurements.
- Basic computer skills required to accurately gather and input data from computer systems.
- Ability to navigate basic Microsoft programs and ERP software.
- Ability and experience using scan guns to move inventory from location to location.
- Valid driver's license required.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS
- Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and reach above the shoulders. Regularly required to sit and move from place to place. Will frequently talk and listen, used hands to finger, handle or touch. Ability to see both closely and at a distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions, units of measurement, and metric conversions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs with regularity and up to 70 lbs occasionally.
- Operate and/or use forklifts, cranes, hoists, slings, saws, hand tools, banders, and instruments of measurements.
- Ability to type on a keyboard and use a mouse to gather and input information on a computer.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Exposure to noise, sparks, smoke, fumes, and chemicals in a production environment.
- Willingness to cross train or work during hours outside of regularly scheduled shift as necessary.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Occasional exposure to loud noise, heavy lifting, and varying weather conditions while driving or loading/unloading goods.
- Machinery and equipment including fork trucks, straight truck, cranes, etc.
- Some computer work.
