Overview

Construction Support Services, Inc. is a construction management firm based in San Diego, California specializing in the federal government and Department of Defense (DOD) construction work and is actively seeking multiple experienced Construction Site Safety and Health Officers (SSHO) for various DOD projects located in California, Guam, and Hawaii. 


About This Position

 

Required to be on-site during all construction activities.


As an SSHO, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe work environment at construction sites. The SSHO must be familiar with the requirements of USACE EM 385-1-1 and have experience in the areas of hazard identification and safety compliance. The SSHO monitors and records the safety of workers during all phases of construction. Duties include monitoring and evaluating site conditions, equipment and personnel compliance with Federal, State and Local rules, regulations, safety policies, procedures, and training programs governing the project.


Duties/Responsibilities

 

·       Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

·       Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure safety compliance

·       Train employees on safety protocols and procedures

·       Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions

·       Maintain safety records and documentation

·       Collaborate with project managers and contractors to address safety concerns

·       Stay current on industry best practices and regulations related to occupational health and safety

 

Required

 

·       High level of attention to detail, excellent communication verbal and written skills

·       Working knowledge of construction and general industry OSHA safety standards

·       Working knowledge of USACE EM 385-1-1 safety standards

·       Able to read and interpret blueprints, schedules, and specifications

·       OSHA 30, EM-385, CPR, First Aid are the minimum certifications required

·       Minimum 5 years field experience as an SSHO, or safety officer in construction with minimum 1 year experience on NAVFAC and or USACE projects.

·       Physically capable of performing inspections safely in active construction work areas under any working conditions

·       Able to maintain detailed records of safety inspections, training, incident reports, and safety meetings

·       Able to participate in meetings with clients or regulatory agencies related to site safety

·       MS Office and MS Teams experience strongly preferred

  • Understands means and methods of construction associated with the construction of commercial and institutional buildings
  • Communicate project safety status to management including reports and presentations
  • Ability to work with numerous activities and groups of people
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations
  • Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems
  • Thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of construction Jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
  • Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues on the job site
  • May require travel
