Overview: CCCS of Heartland is seeking a dedicated and experienced HUD Certified Housing Counselor to join our team. The HUD Certified Housing Counselor will play a critical role in providing housing counseling services. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of HUD regulations, housing assistance programs, and a passion for assisting clients in achieving stable and affordable housing.
Responsibilities:
1. HUD Counseling Services:
· Provide one-on-one or phone counseling sessions to clients seeking assistance with HUD programs, including but not limited to pre-purchase counseling, foreclosure intervention counseling, post-purchase counseling, rental counseling to help low-moderate people obtain safe, clean and safe affordable housing.
2. Application Assistance:
· Guide clients through the application process for HUD programs, ensuring accurate, complete, and time-sensitive submission to lenders and services for realistic mortgage loan workout options.
· Work with clients to address any issues or challenges in the application process.
3. Financial Assessments:
· Conduct financial assessments to help clients understand their budget and financial capabilities.
· Provide counseling on budgeting, credit repair, and other financial matters related to stability, as well as design a Plan of Action for the client to follow.
4. Strong Understanding of Landlord/Tenant Rights:
· Educate landlord/tenants on their rights and responsibilities, lease agreements, and eviction process strategies.
· Assist clients in navigating landlord-tenant relationships and resolving disputes.
5. Community Outreach:
· Participate in community outreach efforts to promote HUD housing counseling services.
· Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to expand awareness and access to housing programs, including Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing.
6. Documentation and Reporting:
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and case notes.
· Prepare reports as required for grant reporting and program evaluations.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Social Work, Urban Planning, Housing, etc.) or equivalent work experience.
· HUD Housing Counselor certification.
· Previous experience in housing counseling, particularly with HUD programs.
· Knowledge of HUD regulations, guidelines, and housing assistance programs.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
