Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated Respite Care Provider to support an older teenager with behavioral health challenges, including issues related to relationships with peers (particularly boys) and substance abuse. The ideal candidate will serve as a positive role model, providing guidance and support to help the teen navigate these challenges in a healthy, constructive way. The role requires patience, understanding, and a commitment to making a positive impact on the teen's life through direct support, skill-building, and emotional encouragement.

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and provide direct care to the teenager during assigned hours.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating healthy behaviors and providing guidance in areas such as relationships, decision-making, and coping strategies.
- Develop and maintain a trusting relationship with the teen, fostering open communication and encouraging positive choices.
- Help the teen set and achieve personal goals related to their behavior and overall well-being, focusing on areas such as peer relationships and avoiding substance abuse.
- Provide emotional support and stability, especially in moments of heightened stress or conflict.
- Assist with daily activities, including homework and recreational activities, while reinforcing positive behaviors.
- Work closely with the teen’s family, counselors, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to care.
- Monitor and document progress, behaviors, and any incidents during respite hours, reporting relevant information to the family and professionals as needed.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with teenagers, especially those with behavioral health challenges, is preferred.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development, particularly in the areas of peer relationships and substance use.
- Ability to model positive behaviors, set boundaries, and foster an environment of trust and respect.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and provide guidance in a non-judgmental, supportive manner.
- Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging or stressful situations.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must pass background checks as required by law.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to engage in active supervision and physical activities with the teen.
- Ability to handle situations requiring intervention in a safe and calm manner.
