SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Director of Employee Health and Safety (EHS) oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. The Director EHS ensures the organization meets regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of safety and environmental success.
Essential Function:
- Responsible for the strategic direction of the safety initiatives and programs in all facilities
- Develops, implements, monitors, and manages safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Ensures the organization complies with all federal, state and local environmental and safety regulations.
- Develop and implement comprehensive EHS programs and policies.
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations.
- Uses every opportunity to drive EHS awareness by demonstrating safe behavior, continuous self-development and education in areas of environmental, health and safety compliance, industry trends and regulatory developments.
- Develop, lead and manage a team of EH&S professionals.
- Lead and manage EHS audits and inspections.
- Investigate and report on incidents and accidents.
- Provide EHS training and development to employees.
- Collaborate with management to integrate EHS considerations into business operations.
- Track and report EHS metrics and KPIs.
- Oversee waste management and pollution prevention programs.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.
- Develop emergency response and preparedness plans.
- Monitor and manage workplace ergonomics.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement in EHS practices and foster a safety culture through awareness campaigns, employee engagement initiatives, open communication channels and training.

Supervisory Responsibility: Yes
Education: Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field;
Experience: Preferred minimum 5 years experience in safety and risk management
Competencies
- Extensive knowledge of state and federal EHS regulations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively to groups
- Requires strong multi-tasking skills with ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate instruction
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and capable of mastering multiple EHS-specific computer programs
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes
- Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment
- Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy
- One of key liaisons with third party insurance and safety partners
- Coordinate and direct company managers in post-accident handling of workers compensation claims
- Lead the Safety initiatives and ensure proper documentation and follow up is achieved
- Devise and compile documents & reports to educate, inform and support company leadership

- Ability to perform error root-cause and trend analysis of issues to prevent reoccurrence

- Assist in ensuring company-wide adherence to all federal and state regulations relating to safety in the workplace
- Pro-actively seek enhancements to company's Risk Management programs, resources and educational materials
- Build and maintain relationships at all appropriate levels of management and control functions (e.g., legal, compliance)
- Demonstrate continuous interaction, sharing of best practices to address common control or risk concerns, raising the level of understanding in terms of emerging risks that impact their business

Work Experience:
Minimum five years EHS Management experience in an industrial or manufacturing, multi-site environment
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Worker exposed to extreme heat and cold with temperatures sufficiently high or low to cause bodily discomfort. Exposed to sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Worker exposed to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts. Works in laboratory, production line, and warehouse environments. Worker will be required to wear appropriate PPE.
Physical Demands: Standing and walking 40% of time on job; sitting 60% of time on job; climbing stairs and ladders up to 15 times a day; repeated motion of hands (typing) 30% of time on job; communicating (talking and listening) 75% of time on job.
