Location : This is an onsite position and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center location. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Industrial Engineer will support the creation, development, and implementation of efficient utility and / or manufacturing systems, reducing costs while maintaining standards of operations. The incumbent will study the processes used by various Consumers departments and external industry practices to identify ways to streamline production processes and improve overall efficiencies and quality while reducing costs using lean principals. Conduct time studies, analyzing data, and developing process improvement plans. Responsible for training and coaching employees on new processes and procedures to increase productivity and quality while reducing waste and costs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and assess various problems and departures from established manufacturing standards and best practices; researches and recommends solutions
- Conduct time studies and work sampling to determine the most efficient methods of performing tasks and analyze the data to identify trends and recommend process improvements
- Support the development of ergonomic solutions to reduce injuries and improve employee comfort and productivity
- Maintain knowledge of best practices in manufacturing methods, and trends and developments in technology and equipment; apply this knowledge to maintain the organization's competitive edge
- Develop and maintain management information, planning, and control systems and designs and oversee the implementation of new production processes
- Support the development and implementation of systems to increase efficiency in all areas of production, including but not limited to : quality control, inventory management, employee productivity, and cost reduction
- Collaborate with senior engineers to design cost-effective manufacturing layouts and building ergonomics for new product lines
- Support the designs, redesigns, or enhances work areas and layouts so that awkward or uncomfortable positions, repetitive motions, and inefficient operations are reduced or eliminated
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
