The Senior Principal Business Development Partner for NorthStar Clean Energy applies a sophisticated combination of technical, commercial, project and risk management knowledge to identify, evaluate, and acquire partially developed utility-scale renewable energy assets, to complete development activities that enable construction of renewable energy generation projects (wind, solar and / or battery storage) comprising up to $300 million investment or more, within the U.S. and fulfill the Company's growth plans. The ideal candidate also possess a strong financial, estimating, and research focused background in developing proxy unit project pricing ("price to compete"), performing market assessments and developing financial evaluation tools for utility-scale renewable energy projects to serve Commercial & Industrial (C&I) customer renewable energy needs by delivering competitive power purchase agreement pricing. Builds and maintains positive relationships with key internal / external stakeholders, customers, assembles and manages high performing multi-disciplinary teams of internal and external resources that support project evaluation, valuation, due diligence, negotiation, contracting, acquisition, development and financing of renewable energy assets.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Assembles and manages internal / external cross-functional teams that identify, screen, evaluate and select asset purchase opportunities; that perform due diligence; that negotiate contracts for acquisition of partially-developed renewable energy generation assets (wind, solar, and / or battery storage); and that close on acquisitions of such projects, and complete development that enables construction of assets, comprising approx. $300 million annual project investment. Manages completion of development studies, permitting, design, financing, construction, and commercial operation within schedule and budget while delivering target revenue / earnings.
- Evaluate and formulate and prepare based on complex financial models, market intelligence, and project technical parameters, proposals and prices to purchase development projects and collaborate and effectively communicate with key external and internal stakeholders to inform on the status of early-to-mid stage utility-scale renewable energy generation project acquisitions and contract opportunities. Manages the process of defining the "price to compete" for various target markets.
- Assembles and manages multi-disciplinary development teams of internal and external resources that will perform evaluations of opportunities, conduct analyses, valuations, detailed due diligence, and negotiate contracts for acquisition of renewable energy assets / developments that result in competitively priced PPAs while mitigating company risks.
- Prepare and negotiate term sheets for prospective purchase of early-to-mid stage development assets and complete commercial and / or detailed due diligence after preliminary bid / offer is accepted and transaction enters exclusivity. Preparation of cost estimates, preliminary financial models and valuations, contracts and problem solving.
- Successfully applies renewable energy generation technology and development, including siting, interconnection, resource assessment, land rights acquisition, studies, permitting, community acceptance, engineering, financing, construction, and operation and maintenance and ongoing performance and compliance.
- Builds and maintains positive, repeat business relationships with developers and customers. Manages teams that successfully identify, evaluate, and analyze strategies to acquire competitively priced utility-scale renewable generation assets to market to and fulfill customer needs and business goals. Tracks and reports on progress toward successful contract execution and / or completion of development activities.
- Coordinates with the Finance Department on preparation of valuation financial models, the Sales & Marketing Team to define customer offtake needs / product offerings, provides PM support to the Project Management Execution & Construction, and Operations Departments.
- Provide clear and accurate communications, discussions, negotiations with key internal stakeholders including preparing and performing presentations for NSCE leadership and external stakeholders and outside agencies.
- Conducts private and public meetings with project stakeholders, landowners and agencies. Conducts due diligence site visits and evaluates prospective assets for acquisition and represents the company at ongoing development meetings to facilitate on time and on budget completion of development and construction of new assets while mitigating company risks.
