Possesses work-related skills at a higher level than completion of high school, including formal written and verbal communication skills, computational and computer skills, mathematical, technical or health care related knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a trade school, para-professional, or certificate type program.
Possesses specific knowledge of medical assisting processes and practices, typically acquired during completion of a certificate in medical assisting or nursing assisting with a duration of up to a year.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities And Duties
- Assists medical practitioners with patient care
- Performs pre-visit planning
- Obtains vital signs.
- Performs standing orders
- Reviews medical histories with patients
- Prepares patients for examinations and assists practitioner with examinations and procedures
- Collects and processes lab specimens
- Administers medications and immunizations.
- Performs vision and hearing tests, ear irrigation, electrocardiograms, spirometry, wound care, splinting, nebulized therapies, and other clinical orders
- Ensures collected data is communicated to practitioner and properly documented in electronic health record (EHR) and other designated databases, such as NCIR.
- Relays instructions and education to patients
- Transmits medication orders/refills to pharmacies
- Maintains clinical areas
- Enacts OSHA medical office standards for sanitation of intake areas, exam rooms, and laboratory, before, during, and after each patient
- Properly disposes of medical waste, including sharps
- Participates in inventory, stocking, and organization of medical supplies, medications, and/or immunizations, in exam rooms, laboratory, and storage areas, including crash carts, refrigerators, and freezers
- Participates in regular maintenance of medical equipment such as laboratory machines, electrocardiogram machines, nebulizers, glucometers, and defibrillators.
