OSP Tech II -
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Preps, Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to division standards OSP Aerial and Underground. Terminate inside plant FDP end points
- Perform ring cuts, butt-splices, enter splice cases on live fiber without affecting existing services.
- Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters.
- Provide accurate equipment location, splicing and terminating records for the fiber database and interpret engineering provided drawings.
- Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment.
- Install/replace enclosures and other fiber related telecom equipment as required or instructed.
- Must have experience using and calibrating the following equipment: fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multi-meters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, duct rodders, ladders, bucket trucks, etc.
- Must possess prior knowledge of OSP and ISP network design and infrastructure principles
- Must possess the ability to interpret plans, drawings, diagrams, and be able to correctly identify and record OSP as-built fiber routes.
- Must be able to maintain accurate records and input data into software programs used for information storage and retrieval
- (database entry).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Candidate must be experienced in modern Fiber Splicing Techniques for the Telecommunications Industry, FOC or FIberOptic.com Certification a plus
- 2 years Fiber optic field splicing experience and test equipment
- 2 years’ experience and demonstrated OSHA certification for operating bucket truck capable of reaching 40’
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
- Clean Drivers Record
- Must complete I-9 E-verify form; pass a drug screen; pass a background check and complete a new hire orientation
