Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility is to plan, layout and perform fabricating and assembly operations on sheet metal products. Must have excellent knowledge of all sheet metal functions and have the math needed to carry out all the duties required in a sheet metal shop.
- Receives work orders and prints, selects materials according to particular job
- Fabricates and lays out work, uses machine and hand tools to cut and form pieces to required dimensions
- Solders, welds, rolls, or rivets seams
- Setup and operate sheet metal fabricating machines
Other responsibilities
- Will be required to cross-train as back-up in other areas of the manufacturing plant
- Other job-related duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position
Work Relationships and Scope
Reports directly to the Machine shop supervisor; Daily interaction with other operations including plant production employees.
- Two to five years of prior shop experience in this role or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prefer High School diploma or equivalent GED. Requires good mathematical ability and the ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Setup and operate metal fabricating machines
- Read and understand blueprints and mechanical drawings
- Understand / be familiar with drawing symbols for welding / fabrication and machining
- Accomplish varying degrees of precision and control in work, where damage / scrap could be of considerable loss
- Recognize various materials used
- Calculate measurements easily using shop mathematics
- Bring own tools
- Take verbal instructions with minimum supervision
- Maintain and repair fabricating /machining equipment
- Excellent attendance is required
Performance Expectations
Safety, Quality, Accuracy, Timeliness, Reliability and Thoroughness of work performed; gains the trust and respect of the supervisor, co-workers and other employees; develops good working relationships with the supervisor, co-workers and other employees. Develops working knowledge of the production environment and has ability to respond to change. Work to Continuously Improve the operations of the Department through Lean activities and Improvement suggestions.
Working Conditions
This position works in a production environment with the risk of injury. Some safety equipment must be worn when working with equipment in the shop. Bending, lifting and pushing up to 70 pounds is required.
