Job Summary:
Continental General Insurance Company is seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager of Investment Accounting to oversee investment accounting functions and ensure compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles and Texas Department of Insurance rules and regulations. This role requires expertise in accounting for complex investments, including but not limited to structured securities, derivatives, alternative investments, securities lending, and fixed income portfolios. The ideal candidate will play a key role in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls related to the company’s investment portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the investment accounting team and oversee accounting and reporting for the company’s investment portfolio.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting of investments under NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
- Review and analyze investment activity, including structured products, derivatives, collateralized loan obligations, private equity, and fixed-income securities.
- Monitor and interpret changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements affecting investment accounting.
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual investment-related disclosures for statutory statement filings.
- Ensure compliance with NAIC investment guidelines, Risk-Based Capital (RBC) requirements, Texas Department of Insurance requirements, and other applicable regulations.
- Examine and provide improvements to existing internal controls, policies, and procedures related to investment accounting.
- Support FP&A, treasury, and actuarial teams with investment-related data and insights.
- Manage investment accounting systems and ensure efficient data integration between investment platforms and the general ledger.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CFA preferred.
- 5 years of investment accounting experience in the insurance industry, with a strong understanding of SAP and RBC.
- Experience in complex investment structures, including derivatives, structured securities, private placements, and alternative investments.
- Detailed understanding of NAIC RBC rules and NAIC investment guidelines, including Schedule D reporting and admissibility requirements.
- Proficiency in investment accounting systems (e.g., Clearwater, PAM, or similar platforms).
- Strong understanding of NAIC reporting requirements and regulatory filings.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data analysis tools.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with investment operations, finance, actuarial, and compliance teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret the proper accounting treatment of complex financial instruments.
