Position Title: Drafting Supervisor
Grade: Exempt
Reports To: General Manager
Position Summary:
Responsible for all drafting and documentation functions associated with the design of custom bulk material conveyance equipment. Member of the company management team representing drawing and documentation schedule, procedures, etc. to other members of CSC management. Guides and directs drafting staff in the areas of equipment design and distributes project assignments and completion schedules. Interprets CSC quotations, equipment design, and customer’s specifications. Utilizes CSC’s production standards and fabrication capabilities for creation of equipment drawings for customer approvals and manufacturing. Works closely with manufacturing to provide guidance when fabrication questions and issues arise. Provides guidance and direction to drafters/detailers in the creation of general arrangement and fabrication drawings. Participates in development and implementation of process improvement programs and procedures.
Job Duties:
- Schedule completion of drawings per commitment to customer’s contract or purchase order.
- Communicate with customer’s engineering firm(s) to gain approval of general arrangement design.
- Collaborate with CSC Operations department to transfer engineering packages to production planning personnel.
- Develop and implement new standards and procedures that will increase turnaround of engineering packages to customer for approval and to CSC Operations for manufacturing.
- Utilize current knowledge of Solidworks design/drafting program to improve performance in the areas of: Standards, Increased throughput, Incorporation of data into CSC business system, etc.
- Meet weekly with CSC management to report on project schedules.
- Communicate with customer’s management and/or installation companies on issues of equipment operation, proper installation, maintenance, etc.
- Maintain the center of excellence for all drawing and documentation practices and services. Includes project analysis and report generation for existing applications.
- Collaborate with internal resources and corporate resources to establish and maintain design and drawing standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information processed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualification /Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
- Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning skills
- Working knowledge of Solidworks design tools and programs, Driveworks, PDM.
- Some management experience or the desire to become a supervisor/manager of technical personnel
- Ability to work collaboratively
- Strong sense of time management and prioritization
Qualifications/Skills Preferred:
- Experience in design control management
- Experience in calculating structural loads, equipment support, etc.
- Working knowledge of all CEMA standards (Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association)
- Experience with software implementation and process design
