What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Test Lab Chemist position at Continental?
Job Description
In this entry-level role you will be part of a team that is responsible for testing materials as part of a global R&D group. The primary materials being tested include various types of elastomers (aka rubber) but may also include thermoplastics, fabrics, reinforcements, and / or metals.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
- Maintain primary ownership and operation of advanced analytical instrumentation. For example this could include a Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), or Capillary Rheometer.Includes test method development, test result analysis, presentation of results to customers (internal and external), and education of customers on test technique.
- Maintain compliance with IATF 16949 related processes and procedures for the automotive industry.
- Cross train in other areas of the laboratory to serve as backup during vacations and sick leave. Other areas include, but are not limited to, rubber mixing, rheology, forensic analysis, and mechanical / physical testing.
- Coordinate with other material testing labs around the globe to ensure best practices are being used and that methods are standard between labs.
- Monitor relevant KPI’s for tests performed and report back to lab supervisor as needed.
- Ensure high quality, accurate test results are produced as efficiently as possible.
- Works within established laboratory procedures and practices with little to no supervision
