Assistant Chief Building Engineer

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Chief Building Engineer to oversee and coordinate facility operations, maintenance activities, and engineering teams. This role requires a hands-on leader who can ensure the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of all building systems, while implementing strategic maintenance plans and leading facility services personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

• Supervise and provide direction to Building Engineers, Maintenance Technicians, and Leads.
• Handle recruiting, training, goal setting, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry best practices.

Facilities & Maintenance Oversight

• Plan and execute routine and emergency maintenance across assigned properties.
• Provide technical expertise on all MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and fire life safety systems.
• Monitor CMMS work order systems to ensure SLA compliance and timely maintenance execution.
• Work with property management and engineering teams to develop capital planning and operating budgets.

Project Management & Compliance

• Lead energy efficiency initiatives in collaboration with Energy Engineers.
• Conduct annual engineering audits and implement process improvements for operational excellence.
• Ensure all building operations comply with safety codes, environmental regulations, and company standards.
• Oversee vendor management, contract negotiations, and RFP development for repairs and upgrades.

Emergency Response & Safety

• Serve as point-of-contact during facility emergencies, ensuring the safety of building occupants.
• Develop and administer safety training programs to maintain compliance with workplace safety regulations.
• Respond to incidents such as fire, flood, evacuations, and equipment failures.

Qualifications & Experience:

✔ 10 years of experience in commercial HVAC, facility operations, and maintenance supervision.
✔ Strong knowledge of CMMS platforms (e.g., Workspeed, Yardi) and BAS systems (e.g., Tridium, Trane, Metasys).
✔ Hands-on experience troubleshooting HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life safety systems.
✔ Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and oversee large-scale facility projects.
✔ Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to develop technical solutions.
✔ Experience working with union labor and in healthcare, food processing, or controlled environments (preferred).
✔ Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the assigned region (less than 25% travel expected).

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to climb ladders, access crawl spaces, and lift 50 lbs regularly.
• Work in both indoor (80%) and outdoor (20%) environments.
