Job SummaryA Quality Technician is responsible for performing metallurgical inspections and tests on in-process production parts to determine if it meets customer specifications. In addition, a Quality Technician may be expected to perform the tasks of a Contract Processing Technician if the volume of work demands.
Essential Duties
- Monitor induction hardening machine quench concentration.
- Section parts and prepares samples for quality inspections using abrasive blaster, cutoff saw, grinders and polishers, and mounting press.
- Inspect and test parts at prescribed frequencies using magnetic particle inspection unit, hardness testers, microscopes, and various gauges to verify in-process production meets customer requirements.
- Accurately and promptly document the results of inspections and testing.
- Look for variations in inspection data and communicate observations to the appropriate personnel.
- Communicate with appropriate personnel regarding out-of-spec inspections results.
- Monitor general quality activities on the production floor (i.e., lot checklists are filled out, parts are being stacked properly on the carts, parts on the cart are heat treated, etc.).
- Conducts layered process audits when requested to do so.

Skills and Abilities Required
- Ability to read and write
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
- Ability to understand and follow directions, procedures, and work instructions
- Ability to communicate with supervisors and co-workers and in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to self-manage and ask for assistance when necessary to fill functions
- Ability to lift and manipulate 40 lbs. on an as-needed basis on and off the shop floor
- Ability to learn how to operate inspection equipment (i.e., cutoff saw, hardness testers, microscopes, etc.)
- Capability of being certified to drive fork trucks
- Willingness to be cross-trained in other areas and to perform additional duties as required
- Willingness to work overtime when required
