Contra Costa County Risk Management Department is seeking one (1) Workers’ Compensation Return to Work Coordinator to join our Workers’ Compensation Claims Unit.

The Workers’ Compensation Return to Work Coordinator will report to the Assistant Risk Manager – Workers’ Compensation and is responsible for managing the County’s Return to Work Program. This program facilitates the return to work of industrially injured/disabled employees within the County. The Return to Work Program objective is to provide work for temporarily industrially injured/disabled employees through restricted duty to reduce disability and workers’ compensation costs, maximize productivity, minimize the loss of human resources and promote full and prompt recovery with the return of the employee to productive employment.

The Workers’ Compensation Claims Unit is a small and dedicated unit within the Risk Management Team. Each team member has a unique opportunity to support each other, make an immediate impact on the program, and to share their experience and knowledge with the rest of the team

  • Working with multiple county department’s regarding temporary work restrictions
  • Answering questions from county department staff, employees, and Labor Union Representatives about the Return to Work Program
  • Administering and managing one or more monthly Return to Work Committee meetings
  • Advising and meeting regularly with County Department Workers’ Compensation Coordinators

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience in coordinating services as they relate to state and federal disability related laws such as Fair Employment Housing Act and American Disabilities Act (FEHA/ADA), for an employer or consulting agency, one (1) year of which must have been working with industrially injured/disabled employees.

Substitution Experience: A Master’s degree in Psychology, Career Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a closely related field, or a law degree may be substituted for one (1) year -of experience. There is no substitution for the one (1) year of working with industrially injured/disabled employees.

Substitution for Education: Additional experience of the type noted above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two (2) years.

Selection Process

  • Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.
  • Training and Experience Evaluation: Consists of an evaluation of each candidate's relevant education, training and/or experience as presented on the application and supplemental questionnaire. (Weighted 100%)
  • Final Selection Interviews: These will be scheduled by the department once the eligible list is established.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
