Dispatcher Employment Description

Authority:
The Overnight Dispatcher is appointed by the President and Logistics Director, to whom he or she is responsible for all assigned duties. The Overnight Dispatcher has the authority delegated by the President commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
Major Responsibilities:
The Overnight Dispatcher is responsible for directing and controlling the activities of the drivers and vehicle fleet between the hours of 9:30p-8:30a. Dispatcher must be enthusiastic, communicative, forward thinking, and highly motivated to manage drivers and work with our customers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Managing driver performance, route scheduling, equipment maintenance scheduling, and collaborating with all functional groups to meet operational goals
- Providing leadership and guidance to drivers through frequent communication
- Enforcing company and customer policies
- Reporting directly to and meeting with Logistics Director daily to review driver list, equipment, and driver schedule
- Analyzing and optimizing performance of assigned drivers: on-time pickup and delivery performance; hours of service compliance; driver availability and scheduling; accommodation of special routing needs; proper vehicle inspection procedures and reporting
- Ensuring correct use of company systems (ELD software, dispatch software, timesheets, etc.) so work performed is accurately represented
- Reviewing and making recommendations on route design and works to identify and resolve operational issues
- Keeping the President and management fully informed of the dispatch activities and any problems encountered, along with solutions to these problems
- Maintaining a sense of urgency and employee morale throughout the company
- Ensuring that Contract Transport Inc’s image of honesty, integrity, and fairness is always projected favorably by all employees
- Assuming additional duties and responsibilities not specifically enumerated, but which are assigned and/or delegated by the President or Logistics Director
Summary:
The Overnight dispatcher is solely responsible for keeping communication flowing from evening into early morning. The extent of the contribution is dependent upon self-motivation, commitment, and ability to organize and plan dispatch activities of the company. Motivating personnel to perform at the desired level of productivity requires leadership by action as well as management skill and ability.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
