What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural QC Inspector position at Contractor Service and Fabrication, Inc.?
Principal Duties:
- Subject matter expert performing or providing direction related to QA activities required for executing industrial construction projects:
- Weld Procedures
- Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)
- Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
- Weld testing for craft personnel
- Interface with client QA/QC representatives for alignment of requirements on future work.
- Inspects fabricated structural steel to ensure conformance to shop drawings and specifications by assisting the Quality Control Manager and perform duties under little supervision.
- Perform internal audits on site to confirm, or establish compliance with AISC, AWS, and company QA/QC Manual.
- Ensure compliance of AISC and AWS Standards with company sub-contractors.
- Work within guidelines provided in company QA/QC Manual and apply codes and standards offered by related governing bodies such as AISC and AWS.
- Review technical drawings and other engineering data and confirm that each structure is built according to specifications.
- Ensure all work is done according to the guidelines, codes, and regulations.
- Ensure that all necessary documentation is in place.
- Participation with execution teams and estimating on inclusion of effort required to meet code/client requirements in proposals.
- Maintain, or position company to gain, certifications (AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.).
- Assume overall responsibility and oversight for welding and fabrication quality assurance within the business/projects.
- Give practical and technical welding and fabrication QA guidance. Provide support, assistance, and mentoring to CSFCO project managers and operatives.
- Visit various client/job location sites and premises for QA purposes (audit, inspection, assistance) to ensure welding and fabrication works are carried out in accordance with relevant standards and client requirements.
- Perform activities necessary to drive quality improvement, assure regulatory compliance, reduce costs, and improve productivity.
- Oversee the QC Inspectors, providing tools/instructions/guidance to them to maintain quality at the shop level, as well as ensuring they are trained and developed.
- Lead efforts in external audits, recertification efforts, new certifications.
- Assist procurement department in selecting and evaluating suppliers.
Required Experience/Key Criteria:
- 5-10 years of experience in QA environment and at least 3 years in industrial fabrication/construction.
- Preferred candidates possess certifications in:
- ASNT-TC-1- PT, MT, RT, UT, VT, AWS CWI, NACE
- Preferred education- BA of Materials, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy
- Strong working knowledge of ASME B31.1 & B31.3, ASME Section II, V, IX, AWS D1.1,
- Strong Ability to read and interpret documents such as structural steel shop drawings, weld symbols, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to lead, develop, and coach a team.
