Position Title: Strategic Sourcing Manager

Position Summary: This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer at Control Devices ("CDI") and work closely with both the CEO and SVP Engineering & Operations. The role will develop and execute CDI's supply chain and sourcing strategy for all locations and business segments, including two locations in the St. Louis, MO area and one in Houston, TX. The role will collaborate and work closely with the Purchasing teams at all locations, but there will be no direct (or dotted line) responsibility over the day-to-day Purchasing functions. Instead, this role will solely focus on developing and executing CDI's sourcing strategy and accelerating key initiatives and projects. The best candidate will be eager to travel to existing suppliers and build relationships with key contacts, analyze the existing supply base and purchasing data, develop a supply chain strategy across a complex business with several key product lines and segments, and execute key initiatives including global and domestic travel to develop new sources of supply. A successful candidate will have significant supply chain experience and sufficient engineering, manufacturing, and machining knowledge to understand component design prints/specs and determine optimal sources for various forgings, castings and machined metals.
Essential Job Duties:
- Supply Chain Strategy- Enhance the supply base to support business segment growth plans across all CDI divisions
- Establish supply strategy by key commodity, material type, and supplier capability category and build partnerships with "A" suppliers in key categories
- Evaluate supply base across CDI to identify supplier rationalization opportunities and leverage purchasing synergies across divisions
- Identify new sources and build scalable supply for acquired product lines with supply-related growth constraints
- International Sourcing Strategy- Evaluate offshore supply situation and develop plans to mitigate tariff/duty cost and business interruption risks
- Perform offshore supplier risk assessment and create plan to mitigate higher risk areas
- Establish new, long-term sources of offshore supply, including in new geographies
- Strategic Sourcing Projects- Drive key supplier development projects to support new product launches, design changes, in/out-source optimization, and other opportunities
- Examples include: Outsource a product line, develop existing supplier for new product line, support acquisition evaluation with supply chain due diligence and integration strategy
- Cash Flow and Margin Generation- Drive measurable improvements of supply chain and inventory metrics to generate cash flow and lower total costs of supply chain
- Develop inventory strategy based on each product line's market/competitive dynamic
- Drive inventory optimization to reach Turns goals while simultaneously supporting company growth objectives
- Evaluate 'total cost' performance of key suppliers based on Supplier OTD, Quality, and landed part costs
- Leverage / negotiate contracts with key suppliers to drive added value; such as stocking/warehousing and consignment programs
Required Education:
- B.S. in Business, Supply Chain or Engineering field.
Required Experience:
- Please Note: Significant travel will be required, including international. Total approx. 50% or more.
- Must have experience managing a Manufacturing supply chain and sourcing including machined components, castings and forgings.
- Total Supply Chain and/or Engineering experience 7-10 years
- Valve or flow control industry experience preferred.
- Must have technical capability including the ability to read complex engineering prints
- Must have experience managing supplier contracts and negotiating terms with key suppliers
- Must be capable of very effective communication, including strong presentation skills
- Strategic and critical thinking must be a strength
- Must be able to collaborate effectively across multiple locations, functions and levels
- Demonstrated success at driving solutions that solve business problems; ability to influence the opinions and approach of cross-functional team members
- Proven history of developing a high performing team: building trust, delivering feedback/coaching, setting expectations and holding others accountable
