About The Role
As part of Convatec’s Applied Research organization within the Materials Science team, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting hands-on laboratory experimentation with materials characterization equipment including but not limited to tensile testers (e.g. Zwick), thermal analyzers (e.g. TGA, DSC), microscopes (e.g. SEM, optical), chemical analysis tools (e.g. FTIR), surface analysis (e.g. Particle size), and viscoelastic measurement tools (e.g. rheometer). This individual will also be trained on and perform industry-specific adhesives testing. In addition to operating the equipment, the Laboratory Technician will support laboratory growth and development through tasks such as SOP writing, data organization, equipment troubleshooting, and new method development.
The Laboratory Technician will receive assignments from Engineers and Scientists, independently maintain and operate laboratory equipment, and report results and observations. They will be an integral part of data-driven decision making for the materials team.

Your Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory research safely and rigorously.
- Maintain careful records of laboratory data and observations.
- Install, operate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment when needed.
- Help develop new laboratory capabilities and test methods necessary for experimentation and materials characterization.
- Assess safety hazards of all new test methods and equipment. Work with our Facilities and EH&S manager to ensure proper PPE and procedures are in place for operation.
- Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) for new test methods developed.
- Summarize and communicate results as needed
- 1 years of hands-on experience in a materials and/or chemistry laboratory
- Experience in materials characterization techniques (TGA, DSC, FTIR, rheology, SEM, particle sizing, DSA, mechanical testing etc.) is a plus
- Experience with execution of experiments, equipment maintenance with documentation.
- Troubleshooting skills.
- A strong and reliable safety mindset
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Software proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are required.
- This is an On Site position in Lexington, MA, must be located in the area.
