We are currently seeking a Full-Time Grounds Person to join our Grounds Team in maintaining our beautiful 110 acre campus.
Position: Grounds Person
Reports to: Director of Grounds
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary
The Grounds Person is responsible for assisting with all grounds and facility related work as assigned by the supervisor. Must be a detail oriented person to ensure that the standards of cleanliness, maintenance and appearance of the grounds and facilities are achieved and exceeded on a consistent basis to provide the highest level of comfort and service to our community.
Work schedule is Full-Time, Monday thru Friday, 8am-4pm with occasional weekend and evening hours. The position is classified as an essential employee which requires the employee to report for work or remain at work to continue grounds and facility operations during a variety of emergency situations including but not limited to power outages, snowstorms, school closures and for special school events.
Essential Functions
Coordinate with supervisor and/or other maintenance staff for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently
Utilize appropriate landscaping tools and equipment such as rakes, trimmers, pruners, blowers, etc. to clean and maintain the grounds, parking lots, walkways, athletic fields and other facilities throughout campus
Utilize appropriate lawn care equipment to mow, trim, seed and fertilize school lawns and athletic fields
Properly plant, transplant, trim and water trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals
Ensure that the campus trash, recycling and litter are collected daily throughout campus
Assist in the removal of snow by operating snow removal equipment, manually shoveling snow and salting of all walkways, steps and patios
Assist with basic painting, carpentry, pressure washing and other facility maintenance tasks
Assist with general housekeeping services as needed
Assist with event set-up and tear-down
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Grounds
Contribute positively to team, morale maintaining a positive, pleasant demeanor
A clear commitment to the mission of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools is required
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Regularly operate a variety of power tools and equipment
Works in a wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands:
Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 100 lbs, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling;
Climbing and balancing, including climbing ladders for heights up to 40 feet;
Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally, the job requires 75% walking and 75% standing.
Must be able to work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, and weather extremes, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license
A minimum of three years of experience in a similar position, preferably at an independent school, golf course, or similar industry
Proven ability to work equally well as a team and individually
Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality
Ability to read and comprehend written/oral instructions and work requests is necessary
Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment
