We are currently seeking a Middle School Physical Education Teacher to join in the vision of our Physical Education Department for the 2025-2026 school year.
Position: Physical Education Teacher
Reports to: Head of Middle School
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time
Job Summary
Sacred Heart Greenwich is committed to excellence in academics and athletics. The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for the instruction of a quality physical education program within the context of the Goals and Criteria that define a Sacred Heart education.
Essential Functions may include:
Plan and teach physical education classes for grades 5th through 8th and assist in Lower School classes as needed
Serve as a member of the Health and Wellness team. This may include teaching, providing guidance, and education in the areas of nutrition and health.
Serve as an advisor to a group of Middle School students
Willingness to teach flexibly and collaborate with colleagues across divisions
Genuine passion for and command of subject matter and enthusiasm for working with middle school students
Instruction encourages curiosity, exploration, and discovery appropriate to the developmental levels and learning styles of the students
Support for all learners through diverse strategies and approaches in a caring environment where students learn and collaborate positively with one another
Interactions with parents on students’ progress, social growth, and learning needs at designated times of the year, and meetings with parents as necessary
Embrace and live out the mission as outlined in the goals and criteria of the Sacred Heart.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Serve as a coach for at least two seasons, with the capacity to coach at the Varsity-level, as determined with the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education required; Master’s preferred. 1-3 years experience teaching children in grades 5 to 8. Knowledge of child development, best practices, and current trends in education specifically related to middle school aged children and the Physical Education discipline. The ability to develop teaching strategies and teach multiple grade levels is essential. Experience coaching at the middle/high school or collegiate level is preferred.
