TITLE: Custodian
REPORTS TO: House Administrator
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Full time, non-exempt, hourly
SUMMARY: Sponsored by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, the Center for Spirituality in Ocean Grove, New Jersey, offers a contemplative space for all those who are seeking wholeness, healing and transformation. The role of custodian at the Center plays a vital part in this mission, serving as a key team member contributing to the comfort, safety and peace of mind of all retreatants. Incumbent will perform a variety of cleaning, maintenance and security tasks in support of the activities and schedule of the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Commits to the Mission/Vision of the Sisters of St. Joseph
· Cleaning tasks: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, buffing and polishing floors, and shampooing carpets; cleaning and stocking common restrooms; appropriately stocking and storing cleaning supplies
Maintenance/weather mitigation responsibilities: minor repairs and maintenance, such as replacing light fixtures, maintaining clean gutters, repairing leaky faucets, and unclogging toilets; monitoring all areas of the building and performing preventative maintenance, upkeep and repair, as needed; reporting larger repair needs to the House Administrator in a timely manner for appropriate contract maintenance or repair; also, snow removal from entryways, porches, and sidewalks, raking and sweeping fallen leaves, responding with appropriate mitigation to other seasonal weather events
Safety, security, and compliance responsibilities: ensuring security, safety and proper functioning of doors and windows; monitoring and servicing indoor and outdoor lighting; ensuring fire and air safety features are in good working order, in compliance and regularly serviced
Sanitation responsibilities: emptying trash and recycling bins throughout the building; bringing receptacles to and from curbside

EDUCATION: High school diploma/GED
EXPERIENCE: Proven hands-on work experience in all the relevant areas listed above.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must possess a valid driver’s license
· Strong and effective communication skills
· Ability to collaborate with and to support other team members
· Position requires flexibility and the ability to respond to unexpected house occurrences
· Problem solving skills and ability to make sound decisions
· Ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs
