What are the responsibilities and job description for the I&C Designer position at Convergence Controls & Engineering?
The I&C Designer works on a variety of projects helping facilitate the design, fabrication, and implementation of automation systems for diverse industries. This position provides the opportunity to interact with clients and engineers to understand the design requirements and transform them into effective packages. This is done using established procedures and using good judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Candidate should be able to provide an example of work completed in .dwg and .pdf formats. Designer should have familiarity with electrical concepts, instrumentation specification, and network architecture.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ability to efficiently deliver electrical, control panel, instrumentation and control drawings
- Design and specify control panel equipment in accordance with NEC, UL508A, UL698A, ISA and other standards.
- Design and specify MCC and Drive Control panels in accordance with NEC, UL and other standards
- Development of complete electrical design packages from scratch including power distribution, panel layouts, wiring, circuit schedules grounding, loop diagrams, P&IDs and network architectures.
- Development of cable and conduit schedules
- Familiar with Hazardous Area Location control package design
- Experience with one-line medium voltage power distributions, drives and starters
- Evergreen improvement of drawing standards and libraries, including block library, specifications, and technical standards
- Advanced skillset in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical.
- Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam, E-Plan and other software desired
- Familiarity with power and control products from Phoenix Contact, Weidmueller, MOXA, Turck, Rockwell and others.
- Assist with research of new component specifications, validating equipment viability for application
- Familiarity with calculation load lists, wire fill, SCCR and FLA.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Assist with the development of SCADA, HMI, and other graphical design based on P&ID references.
- Develop documentation packages such as Operations and Maintenance Manuals, project documentation packages.
Requirements
Education:
An Associate’s Degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or equivalent is preferred.
Experience:
3-5 years with capabilities in the below areas is preferred:
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Visio and other drafting software
- Experience in industries such as Oil & Gas, Water/Wastewater, Mining Life Sciences, Building Automation, Manufacturing and Food & Beverage.
- Experience in the design of electrical schematics, including power distribution under 480VAC, control panels and associated NEC references desired.
- 2D and 3D modeling is desired
- UL508A and UL698A panel design with ISA Standards
Travel:
Office-based work with potential for up to 50% travel to customer facilities and embedded support.

$50,000 - $80,000 per year
