What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experimental Director position at Convergent Research?
IMPRINT is a biomedical Focused Research Organization (FRO) building and applying experimental and computational tools to identify the hidden causes of chronic disease, especially autoimmune and psychiatric disorders. Our work involves cutting-edge research at the intersection of immunology, machine learning, neuroscience, and disease. Focused Research Organizations are impact-driven moonshot initiatives, supported by philanthropic funding, with startup-like operations and agility. FROs are both tight-knit teams and part of the larger Convergent Research ecosystem, along with several other deep-tech inaugural FROs.
We are seeking an experienced Scientific Director with a deep understanding of immunology to lead and oversee key initiatives across strategy, personnel management, and external partnerships. This is an exciting opportunity to build and work with a world-class multidisciplinary team, pioneering both a new research model and conducting high-impact moonshot science, in a fast-paced high-growth environment.
\n- Scientific Strategy & Planning: Serve as the leader of the lab and as an expert technical resource for the organization. Develop technical strategic plans and lab OKRs in collaboration with the CEO and leadership team. Translate priorities into experimental project plans. Work closely with the Computational Director to design and develop datasets, experiments, and research strategies. Execute experiments and interpret data, ensuring the research aligns with organizational goals.
- Program & Team Leadership: Manage scientific research programs and oversee experimental project execution. Build and lead research teams across multiple functions, including molecular biology, sequencing, and mouse models. Ensure fluid bidirectional communication of strategic priorities and scientific progress across the organization. Conceive and build robust pipelines for antigen-labeling of adaptive immune cells, immune cell characterization, and adaptive immune receptor (BCR/TCR) and transcriptome single-cell and bulk sequencing.
- Lab Oversight: Facilitate coordinated, efficient operations across projects. Oversee facilities and equipment planning, acquisition, and management for all internal experimental activities. Establish experimental record-keeping and data management systems.
- External Partnerships: Recruit and liaise with scientific collaborators, relevant scientific domain experts, and scientific resource partnerships. Oversee clinical sample procurement.
